Crisis and Unity — Part One
Assessing the Liberal Surge
The political landscape in our fair Dominion has seen quite the upheaval, as evidenced by recent polling. The notion that the Liberals could fare so handsomely in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the forthcoming election of 2025 speaks volumes about the tumultuous impact of our southern neighbuor’s bellicose antics.
Though I claim no expertise in the art and science of polling the electorate, I am inclined to believe that this marks the most favourable polling for the Liberals in the Western districts within my recollection. The cause, it seems, lies in the theatrics of a certain politician who fancies himself a diminutive echo of the brash American leader. The Member from Carleton has not showered himself in glory in front of the Canadian people over the past eight weeks.
Regardless of future developments, one must acknowledge that this shift is rapidly becoming the most significant political event in Canada in living memory, or perhaps even the birth of our Confederation.
Some of this favour may be attributed to the honeymoon period enjoyed by the Liberals, with their new and initially popular leader at the helm. Yet, the would-be autocrat to the south bolsters their numbers each time he utters “51st State” or “Governor”.
Should he persist in this manner, the Liberals may well sweep the nation. Let us not mistake his bluster for political acumen.
Time will tell how this trend unfolds.
