Constructive Ideas — Part One
On Wednesday last, I chanced upon an opinion piece advocating for the establishment of a Civil Defence Corps in Canada, akin to those maintained by many steadfast Allies during the height of the Cold War. The impetus for such a measure is, of course, the irrational and overtly hostile economic warfare waged by Mr. Trump against our fair Dominion.
While it is clear that such a policy must be meticulously considered, and there will undoubtedly be those among us who, for reasons of religious conviction or political and personal objections, may hesitate to participate, these challenges have been surmounted by our North Atlantic allies. I firmly believe this proposal merits serious consideration and recommend a thorough examination by our next government.
Many of our allies have gone beyond mere national service in their civil defence programmes, implementing mandatory military service for most able bodied young adults.
In his thought-provoking article published in The Tyee, Mr. Peter MacLeod advocates for the establishment of a new Civil Defence Corps in Canada, emphasizing the need for robust disaster preparedness.
